They are cheap, some even under $100 dollars, and can easily access your information if in the right hands. Thieves are taking advantage of these simple and cheap machines to skim the name, account number, expiration dates and other information from unprotected cards. They are also using them to access your personal information on ID cards such as your passport. Meanwhile, you won’t even know they accessed this information because it’s done without even touching the cards!
In many cases, hackers have demonstrated how simple RFID handheld readers can easily access private information from credit cards from several feed away. They’ve collected credit card numbers and names from credit cards, as well as names and country of origin from passports.
